After quite a
while sketching ideas, this is the result of designing and making a camera
strap.
The strap is made
of three parts, the middle section that goes around the neck, and two side
sections that connect to the camera.
The middle section is made with a red British saddle leather (very nice!) and lined with softer antique brown leather for more comfort on the neck.
Then
a smaller strap runs along the outside of the neckpiece, threading in and out
of it near the ends to help distribute load and stress.
The smaller strap
has a stamped piece of leather sewn over it at the middle of the neckpiece to
prevent it from slipping out of place.
The neckpiece has
the two side sections connected to it with a couple of buckles, this allows for
easy adjustment of the strap length for different people.
To connect the
strap to the camera, I used a metal clip that has a screw thread gate on it;
this allows the clip to be secured closed to prevent the camera falling off of
the clip. After a little
experimentation, I added a leather guard to the inside of the clip, the guard
slides over the camera strap pegs before the metal clips are attached, this
stops any metal-on-camera damage.
And the final
product in use, ironically the DLSR can’t be used to take photo’s of it’s own
strap.
